Yakitori: Meat on a Stick

WALT: Increase our knowledge by reading a wide range of texts (Article a day - Book of Knowledge).

Today we had to read an article for my Book of knowledge from Readworks. I enjoyed reading Yakitori meat on a stick because it is very interesting and nice to read.

I have learned that Yakitori means “grilled chicken” in Japanese. I also learned that It’s a popular dish in Japan today, but a long time ago, Japanese people did not eat meat. During that time, most of Japan followed the religion of Buddhism. Buddhists in Japan were not allowed to eat meat, so Japanese rulers made a rule against eating meat. This rule got looser as time went on. Then, chicken became popular meat to grill, especially in street stands. Pieces of chicken were cooked on sticks over a grill. This became known as yakitori.
